Here is a summary of our current episode:
Gluten-free beer has evolved from a niche option into a mainstream presence on tap lists and store shelves, offering people with celiac disease or gluten sensitivity a way to enjoy beer without adverse effects. Unlike traditional beer, which relies on barley and wheat, gluten-free versions use alternative grains like millet, rice, corn, and buckwheat. Brewers often employ specialized enzymes and more complex brewing techniques to achieve the same fermentation results. There’s also a related category—gluten-reduced beer—which uses enzymes to break down gluten in barley-based brews, though these aren’t always safe for everyone. Today’s gluten-free beers have improved significantly in taste, shedding earlier reputations of being thin or overly sweet. With styles ranging from crisp lagers to hoppy IPAs, they appeal not only to those with dietary needs but also to curious drinkers seeking new options. Ultimately, gluten-free beer is about inclusivity—expanding the beer experience so more people can enjoy it together.
